Skin Needling

A cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles.

Whai is Skin Needling?

Skin needling is also known as dermarolling, microneedling, Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI), collagen induction therapy, dry tattooing and intradermabrasion.

The process of needling involves the application of multiple needles into the skin’s surface with an automated vibration to stimulate natural collagen reproduction. This creates fine channels for the increased delivery (up to 80%) of topical nutrients and skin aiding products. It is similar to fractional laser treatments but without the side effects or downtime. Needling is more effective than most microdermabrasion procedures or chemical peels in the treatment of scar removal as well as skin tightening and rejuvenation as it allows deeper penetration of applied serums and nutrients into the skin.

Our treatments

Dermapen

Contrary to the original dermarolling technique, Dermapen features vertical needles to reduce the chance of needle bending and for accurate penetration of the skin. The needles are disposable to minimise contamination and feature a unique scalloped edge around the pen’s surface to increase surface area, minimise discomfort and improve control.

We generally recommend a period of effective active treatment products such as Vitamin A, B and C or Resveratrol & Anti-oxidants to allow the skin’s strength to build up especially for thin or delicate skin areas.

Typically, you will see results within a few days after your first treatment as the skin begins to heal. For more significant and long lasting results, we recommend multiple treatments (generally spaced at 4-6 weeks apart).

As this treatment involves physical albeit gentle piercing of the skin with needles, we will apply a topical anaesthetic for you to minimise discomfort. The treatment itself is quick and small areas can take as little as 15 minutes after initial anaesthetic application.

*Not recommended for those with active acne or actual infection of the skin in the area to be treated.

Intensif Microneedling

This RF (radiofrequency) treatment provides the most effective dermal skin remodelling to revive and rejuvenate the natural production of new collagen and elastin. The Intensif Microneedle triggers the skin’s natural healing process, rejuvenating and refreshing the skin while reducing the appearance of wrinkles, acne and traumatic scars in all skin types. This is the most effective wrinkle reduction and acne scar treatment that offers consistent results with minimal pain and downtime.

Intensif’s gold plated needles require less passes per treatment for shorter treatment times and greater patient comfort, with no bleeding or bruising. High precision needle depth control provides the most effective treatment strength suitable to the particular treatment area.

Immediately post treatment you can expect some redness for 12-48 hours which can be covered with mineral makeup and a post treatment balm.

Subcision

Often performed in addition to dermal fillers, subcision can also be used on it’s own with great results. Depending on your scar type, your scar tissue on the skins surface may be pulled down and attached (tethered) to the deeper layers of your skin. This is usually the case for pitted scars.

Subcision utilises tiny sterile needles inserted at an angle under the skins surface to “cut” and separate the scar tissue that is being anchored down by the deeper skin layers. By cutting and allowing this scar tissue to separate from below, it is no longer tethered and the resulting skin surface has less of a deep pit-like appearance. Subcision is often coupled with dermal fillers which are administered in tiny amounts within the pitted scar area to bring it’s surface back up to level with the rest of the skin. With the use of local anaesthetic, this treatment is quick and extremely effective with lasting results.

Subcision does use fine needles so if you have a low tolerance for needles then this treatment may not be for you, We do however offer the use of ice packs and local anaesthetics to allow increased comfort for a next to painless experience. You may notice light bruising and swelling in the area which will subside within 1-2 weeks. Ice packs and over the counter pain medication may be suggested to help with pain tolerance until healing is complete.

While the reduction in pitted scar surfaces is greatly improved with the injection of dermal fillers beneath the surface, you will still notice a great improvement with just the subcision treatment on it’s own.
